Specialist Behaviour Support

What is specialist behaviour support?

Specialist (or positive) behaviour support aims to improve the quality of life for people by understanding why the person is using behaviours of concern, and by providing strategies to support them and their support network to better manage this, to develop skills and create meaningful behaviour change and support improved wellbeing.

We work with the person and those supporting them to promote positive behaviour change, and improvements in quality of life, acquisition of valued skills and improved wellbeing.

Specialist Behaviour Support can include:

  • Goal setting and planning – identifying and setting goals and person-centred planning to meet your needs
  • Assessment – assessment of the person's behaviour and their needs
  • Development of Behaviour Support Plans – development of behaviour support plans which provide strategies and supports to meet your needs
  • Support with Restrictive Practice Authorisation – support to assess, review and apply for restrictive practice authorisation (RPA) processes, when needed
  • Skill building – support to develop skills to support the person to meet their needs
  • Training and Support – provision of family and caregiver support, as well as training and support for the person's support network; in implementing the behaviour support plan and strategies
  • Monitoring and Review – monitoring and review of the person's progress and the implementation of the behaviour support plan, to support any changes that are needed
  • Provision of reports – provision of reports for NDIS plan reviews and as needed
  • Tailored interdisciplinary collaboration and consultation - provision of a collaborative approach through tailored interdisciplinary collaboration with family and support services, as well as consultation to support the person, to meet their goals and individual needs, and to support their improved quality of life
